Editor Shauna Rose Hermel grew up in the Angus business. A native of northeastern
Missouri, Shauna hails from Coon Angus Ranch, a performance-oriented registered
Angus herd. In addition to 4-H and FFA, she was involved in the Missouri Junior
Angus and the National Junior Angus associations.
Hermel earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural journalism at the University of
Missouri-Columbia and a master's degree in agricultural journalism at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison.
Before joining the Angus Journal staff in September 1997, Hermel spent eight
years at Intertec Publishing, working first for both BEEF and National Hog
Farmer magazines, then switching entirely to BEEF.
She brings to the Angus Journal and the Angus Beef Bulletin a love
of the Angus breed and its people, insight into the practical needs of commercial
cattle production, an eye for cutting-edge research and technology, and a firm conviction
in the role the Angus breed must assume to help the beef industry reestablish market
share at the consumer level.
Hermel resides in St. Joseph, Mo., with her husband, Todd.
