A native of Virginia, Grove grew up on a purebred Angus farm. In 4-H he exhibited steers and breeding cattle at the major shows in the East.

While attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, he fitted the university show cattle, was a member of the livestock judging team and served as the assistant livestock judging coach during his senior year.

After graduating he managed a registered Hereford and commercial ranch in Iowa and was selected as the Outstanding Herdsman at the Iowa State Fair.

Grove has been a regional manager since 1975.
