Mullins is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and also has completed training at the Missouri Auction School.

Before joining the Angus team, Mullins worked as the Eastern field representative for the American Gelbvieh Association. Mullins was raised on his family's cow-calf operation and also raises and sells club lambs.

Mullins joined the American Angus Association staff in 2003.
